Treaty 2 members have been celebrating their important education and training accomplishments.
FNT2T Life Long Learning would like to send a big congratulations to all Treaty 2 students who completed their grade level, their high school diploma, or their post-secondary education!
The last few months of school have not been easy for many students due to COVID-19 remote learning. Most graduations over the past few weeks have been celebrated practicing social distancing and/or virtual convocations. Nevertheless, Treaty 2 members who reside in their community, other communities, or various urban centres across Treaty 2 and other treaty territories have worked hard to obtain the education and training they need to achieve their dreams.
Life Long Learning also congratulates the many Treaty 2 students who won academic, attendance, volunteer and sport awards. It is important for First Nations (Indigenous) students to partake in extra-curricular activities that are available at their school(s) or in their community. We continue to need more First Nations (Indigenous) peoples in all facets of careers and sports.
We wish those high school graduates moving on to post-secondary learning the best of luck. Ensure that you keep an eye out for educational and financial bursaries available throughout the year to Indigenous students at your school of choice. Connect with the Indigenous student centre for supports that you may need including Elders and tutor assistance. Most Indigenous student centres host gatherings and feasts for people to come together so ensure that you connect with your school’s Indigenous community and available resources.
Continue to nurture your gifts whatever those gifts may be. Each person has a gift. And while education is certainly important for First Nations (Indigenous) peoples, it is important to remember that education is life long. It encompasses not just learning in a classroom or a school, but learning in the community, out on the land, and from Elders and knowledge-keepers. We’re always learning.
